Each year on the day before Thanksgiving, Oliver students come together to do community service throughout New York City. We invite volunteers to come and serve the community alongside our scholars.
Interview Weekend is a two-day event during which prospective scholars and their families are interviewed one-to-one and in groups. Volunteers support parent and group interviews, as well as individual interviews with prospective students.
Oliver's Mock Interview workshop prepares our scholars for their interviews at independent schools. Volunteers lead one-on-one interviews with scholars and give verbal and written feedback.
Held throughout the school year, TuesdayTalks provide scholars of all ages with exposure to different career paths. Past Tuesday Talks have focused on management consulting, medical careers, journalism, sports marketing, and the arts.
Held during the Summer Program, this series exposes scholars to a variety of career possibilities. Once a week over lunch, volunteers share what it takes to succeed in their profession and answer questions.
As a role model, a mentor shares his/her unique perspective and experiences with scholars, including career advice, personal counseling, and academic and financial guidance. Mentor-mentee relationships develop over the course of two years according to a scholar's unique needs and a mentor's unique talents. Applications become available in January of each year, and matches are made in the spring of each year.
